Mercenary puts you in the shoes of an Intergalactic Mercenary, tasked with completing contracts for a bounty.

As an Intergalactic Mercenary you risk your life to make a quick buck.

Opposing factions will seek your help to further their agency, but you must decide which contract is more valuable.

Complete the bounties to collect currency or pay the ultimate price... your life!

A little about the Insomniacs:

We are a group of young professionals working for an MSP & Software For Hire business.

We also partner with a local STEM Tech Academy to help teach high schoolers programming through the event.

This is our second ludum dare together and we are improving quickly.

Our first game - Ascension was a 2D adventure game.

We tried our hand in the 3D space this time around and faced some challenges:

- Colliders were being extra difficult

- Physics issues with camera

- Player seeking attacks not working correctly

- Battled Illness

We were able to overcome these items and learn from them but had to leave some mechanics out.

post-jam we intend to make updates and include the mechanics we needed to skipped, these include:

-Multiple missions / bounties

   - Add skins to give each mission a unique feel.

   - Cumulative count of currency collected across missions

-Ally Patrols

   - Ally ships to assist in your mission and dog fights

-Using Currency to purchase upgrades

   - Additional weapons (secondary not available immediately)

   - Shields

   - Escape pods (Extra Life)

   - Additional ships

   - etc.

- More in-depth dog fights and arming the Citadel

   - This relates to the player seeking attack issues

- Skins / Materials

   - Faction specific skins

   - Ship skins

- Added visual effects

   - movement animations

   - better attack animations

- Improves Sounds

   - with better software and equipment we’d like to make more in depth sounds

-Dialogue

   - In game dialog between factions

- Easter Eggs

   - Hidden Morality Bonus

In short wed love to complete this into a full indie game in the future, and we feel much more comfortable tackling 3D projects in future jams.

Some things we are particularly proud of:

- Modeling

   - we created all assets and are particularly proud of the modeling work done

- Scripts

   - Player seeking enemy ships that detect when you enter their cluster

   - randomized asteroid and Citadel locations

We've enjoyed our second Ludum Dare together and look forward to the next, we learned a ton and can’t wait to show that off again!

Hope you enjoy our game - Mercenary!
